Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Report 10.05.19

Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 10.05.19.

The Isle of Man was the popular venue for Zak Machin Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Under 14 rider when he rode in the 2nd round of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series. The event takes place over three days comprising of a Time Trial and two Road Races. A good Time Trial saw Machin in 23rd place out of 68 riders but more importantly only 20 seconds behind the leader. The second days road race is a really tough event for the young riders having a long steep climb which has to be ridden five times. Machin unfortunately dropped his chain on the second lap and had to expend a lot of energy to catch up with the leaders, which he managed to do but the effort told on the long climb to the finish when he lost a number of places/time. The third day he was in the bunch sprint at the finish crossing the line in 11th place only 3seconds behind the breakaway winner. His overall 23rd place was a very creditable result for the young rider who with a little more luck could have been very much closer to the winner, Jed Smithson of WORX Factory Racing.

In Round 5 of the Mallory Park Youth Road Race League Machin finished in 2nd place behind the winner Finley Bass of The MI Racing Academy. The podium finish keeps him right in touch of the Championship.

The Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles club evening Time Trial held over 10 miles on the Anslow circuit took place on a chilly evening with variable wind conditions. Lee Aston of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles was again the winner with a time of 23 minutes 38 seconds (3rd on handicap). He was followed by Andy Wray, Mercia, 24:44 (2nd on handicap). Other riders times were as follows and all Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles. David Clarke 24:55, Ben Startin 25:59, Jeff Slinn 26:51. Liam Mewis (Youth & 1st on Handicap) 28:07, Keith Staley 28:34, Adrian Waters 32:49 & at one lap, David Peters 19:27.
