Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 31.05.18
David Clarke showed his all-round athletic ability when qualifying for the European
Duathlon Championship at the sprint distance. The event held at Darley Moor
consisted of a 5k run a 20k cycle ride followed by a further run of 2.5k. The short
cycle ride didn’t particularly suit Clarke who’s experience is over much greater
distance and hillier terrain. Never the less he produced good efforts in all three
disciplines and finished first in his age group, 35-39, with a time of 55:15, and 4th
place overall. The outright winner was George MacFarlane in a time of 54:22.
Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Nigel Finch recently rode in the Walsall Roads CC 10 mile
open 10 mile Time Trial event on the Rugeley to Stone road. He recorded a time of
25:18, the winner was Charles Walker of Halesowen A&CC with a time of 20:45.
Ben Startin another of Mercia’s veteran riders rode in the VTTA 25mile TT event held
on the popular A50 at Etwall he finished in 52nd place out of the 101 finishers with a
time of 57:12. Adam Duggleby riding for Vive le Velo won with a time of 46:57.
Mercia CC-Lloyds CC young riders were in the thick of the action again at Mallory
Park for round 7 of the Youth League. In the Under 10 category, Daniel Ward
produced another excellent finishing sprint to snatch 2nd place with his team mate
Sam Parker in 6th George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme. In the Under 14
category Zak Machin was 9th behind Jack Pearson of Beeston RC.
At Curborough in the West Midlands Road Race League, Daniel took another fine 2nd place
again behind George Cooper. Zak Machin was 17th behind winner Alex Barker of Halesowen
A&CC in the Under 14.
