Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Report 21.11.19

Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 21.11.19.

Round 8 of the Notts Derby Cyclo Cross League was held at Holme Pierrepont on the banks of the river Trent in Nottingham, hosted by the local Clarion club. The course is always very muddy in parts and after a 5/6 weeks of relentless rain it proved to be a very tough course to ride.

First off were Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles under 12 riders Daniel Ward and Sam Parker. Ward enjoyed the conditions and rode to a fine 4th place beating several riders that he has not beaten all season. Parker has been moving up the leader board all season but found the conditions hard to subsequently drop a few places when finishing in 16th place. The winner, as in most rounds this year, was Jacob Steed of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme.

Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles V50 rider, Julie Tipper, continued her excellent season when mastering the difficult conditions to finish in 2nd place close behind former World Champion, Tracey Fletcher of Magspeed Racing.

In the mens Veteran classes, Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles V40 rider Oliver Parker suffered by not having a second bike and pit crew to help in the very muddy conditions and log grass which wraps around the mechanical and moving parts. To his credit he completed the course to finish in 34th place, good considering his lack of equipment. The class & overall winner was James Thompson of Magspeed Racing. In the V50 class Pascal Arnoux of Zepnat RT-Lazer Helmets was 15th behind Pete Middleton of the same team.

After cleaning his very muddy bike, Daniel Ward raced the following day in the West Midlands League Round 9 at Halesowen. A great effort on another very muddy course saw him ride into 2nd place behind George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles – Forme whom he had beaten the previous day, so honours even!
