Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 20.12.18

The Notts Derby Cyclo League continued with Round 7 at the popular Markeaton Park course in Derby. The event was very ably hosted by Derby Mercury CC who once again produced a varied, challenging number of circuits to suit all age groups. The recent mild weather however didn’t continue and instead all riders were greeted by a bitterly cold wind added to which the senior riders had to contend with icy rain/sleet. The course however, stood up to the weather and racing very well to produce fast, competitive racing.

First off were young Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles riders Daniel Ward and Sam Parker in the Under 12 category. Both have ridden well throughout the season despite racing against many older competitors, but the cold weather seemed to affect their performance and although they were seen to be trying very hard they both lost places compared to previous weeks. Parker was unlucky when he was brought down by another rider causing him to lose a number of places, an occurrence which frequently happens in this type of racing.  Ward crossed the finishing line in 14th place and Parker in 19th the winner was series leader George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme.

Adrian Waters of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles returned to racing having been caused to miss the last two events following a minor operation. Taking part in the V70 class he finished in 2nd place although some way behind the class winner, Pete Mooney of Rugby Velo.

Julie Tipper Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles V50F rider unfortunately faced the worst weather of the whole event having to ride against an increased strength wind and driving sleet. She was again the best placed of all the Mercia competitors when finishing in 2nd place behind the very experienced and talented Tracey Fletcher of Magspeed Racing.

Ward also competes regularly in the Lazer/Ridley West Midlands Cyclo-Cross series and travelled to Worcester for Round 10. A relatively flat course for the Under 12’s suited him and he crossed the line in 5th place to continue his consistent form in the league.
