Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 14.06.18

Lady Veteran rider Anne Staley of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles took part in the prestigious UCI GranFondo World Series Tour of Cambridge event held at Peterborough. The event consists of a 17.6km Chrono (TT) and a road race on closed roads with qualifiers eligible for the World GranFondo Championships later this year in Varese in Italy. The first event was the TT and Staley had a great ride to finish with the fastest time in age group of 49:59. Not content with qualifying in one event she rode into 3rd place the following day in the road race to again be eligible for the races in Italy. A fine effort for rider and club.

Mercia CC-Lloyds CC young riders were again in action at Mallory Park for round 8 of the Youth League. In the Under 10 category, Daniel Ward battled at the front throughout and was first out of the final bend but was pipped in the finishing sprint by Rocco Schumacher of Provision. 2nd place ensured that he is still challenging hard for the overall title. Team mate Sam Parker closely followed Ward to take 3rd place and again show his continuing talent. In the Under 14 category Zak Machin of Lichfield CCC again battled strongly in this very competitive class of racing. He finished in 9th place a short distance behind the winner Jude Chamberlain of The MI Racing Academy.

The following week in the Mallory Youth League round 9 again saw Ward ride into 2nd place this time behind series leader George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme. Sam Parker dropped a few places to finish in 5th place in the same race. Zak Machin competing the U14 finished in 10th place behind winner Rory Knowles of The MI Racing Academy.

Despite feeling unwell rode in the Doncaster Cycle Festival town centre Crit race. The type of racing suits his style well but being under the weather he was unable to perform to his best and he finished in 12th place. The winner was his old adversary George Cooper.
