Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 09.08.18

Round 5 of the HSBC UK National Cross Country MTB was held at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells. The younger riders were all packed into one race consisting of Under 8, 10 & 12 year olds, Daniel Ward of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles was gridded on the second row of the grid and was always going to find it hard to break through the older competitors. At the frenetic start he missed getting his foot clipped into the pedal and went into the first bend in second to last position. Undeterred he worked his way through the field to finish in 5th place overall and second placed Under 10 rider to make the long journey well worth while. At the same event Christian Aucote finished in sixth place in the Expert mens category, Kieren Brown of 8point8 Group was the winner.

The Mercia Club held a 10 mile Time Trial recently on the Anslow course Anthony Harper of Derby Mercury recorded the fastest time of 24:03, Ben Startin, Mercia,  25:29, Keith Staley 26:53, Jeff Slinn 27:15, Nigel Elson , Derby Mercury, 27:49, Tony Marlow 28:51, Mark Eccleston 29:14 & Dave Baines 31:05.

The Mercia Thursday evenings 10 mile TT the Sudbury/Doveridge course again had a good number of riders with Hayley Kirk again having a very strong performance which showed the benefit of structured training. The fastest time was recorded by Mercia’s Jason Seabridge in 22:23 he narrowly beat Haydon Smedley 22:25. Other times were all posted by Mercia riders unless stated otherwise. Lee Griffiths 22:54, Ben Startin 24:27, Hayley Kirk  24:55, Keith Staley 25:27, Courtney Blockley  of Lutterworth Wheelers 25:34, Nathan Bates 25:52, James Allen 26:47, Nigel Briggs SPRC 27:51, Tim Sharp Derby Mercury 27:53 & Dave Baines 29:37.
