Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Report 07.11.19

Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 07.11.19.

Round 6 of the Notts Derby Cyclo Cross League took place at Chetwynd Barracks, Chilwell,Notts hosted by Ilkeston CC. The course, kindly loaned by the British Army, is always very testing with long muddy slopes, sand pits and long grass giving the riders no respite. The heavy rain throughout the morning and the earlier races made the conditions particularly difficult for the Ladies and Mens races giving no respite anywhere on the course.

The conditions were well to the liking of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles rider Daniel Ward in the Under 12 category. The riders were quickly strung out by the winner Jacob Steed of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme who pulled away from the rest of the riders. Ward though was as close to the winner as he has been all season riding consistently fast lap times he was only a few seconds down at the end of a hard race to finish in 5th place.

Mercia’s V50 Lady rider Julie Tipper, rode an exceptional race when she finished in 2nd place only 14 seconds down on the winner Marianne Heffron of Zepnat RT-Lazer Helmets after a very hard 45 minute race.

In the Veteran classes, Pascal Arnoux of Zepnat RT-Lazer Helmets was 16th place in the V50 class behind his team mate Pete Middleton.

In the West Midlands League at Blackwell Court the Stourbridge CC/Redditdh Road & Path CC promoted event, young Daniel Ward suffered a problem when he discovered a rear wheel puncture when lining up for the start. A fellow competitor kindly loaned him a spare wheel and he was able compete. Despite the gearing not being to his liking he finished on the podium in 3rd place behind George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles – Forme. The fine result gives him a slender lead at the top of the overall championship.
