Mercia Report 08-01-12

Four Plan B and five Mercia HBM riders compete in Thornbridge Cyclo Cross. Warren and Yasmin Evans travel to Worcester to Compete in the West Midlands Cyclo Cross

Round eleven of the Notts and Derby Cyclo Cross League was held at the Thornbridge Outdoor Education Centre near Bakewell, in very muddy conditions. Elliot Waters did a very good ride considering he wasn’t one of the seeded riders and had to start at the back in the under 12’s race. He worked his way to the front of the race to finish in 15th place out of 56 finishers. The winner was Sol Kerfoot Robson from Rhos on Sea Cycling Club in North Wales.

In the under 14s Joshua Waters rode well again to finish 3rd and Bailey Waters also rode well to finish in 9th place. Sam Jones finished in 20th place. There were 45 riders who completed the race. William Gascoyne (Matlock CC) was again the winner. Five Mercia HBM riders started the senior’s race with 179 starters and only 134 finishers, mainly due to the mud causing mechanical problems and fatigue. Christian Aucote finished in 45th place, Justin Waters 90th, Gary Bush 133rd and Gareth Fearn did not finish. The winner was former National Champion Veteran Nick Scott (Team Scott UK).

Warren Evans and his daughter Yasmin took the opportunity to compete in the West Midlands League round 10 Cyclo Cross at Top Barn Farm, Holt Heath near Worcester. Yasmin finished in the under 10s race and Warren finished in 28th place in the 40 to 49 years age group 51 riders finished the race. The winner was Darren Atkins (Team Jewson / M.I. Racing)
