Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League races at Holme Pierrepoint and Peter Rose finishes in 6th place in Veterans time trialling Points competition
Holme Pierrepoint near Nottingham was the venue for round 10 of the Notts and
Derby Cyclo Cross League, promoted by Nottingham Clarion. The well-supported
races were held on a good technical course.
After starting from the back of the field Elliott Waters (Plan B) finished in 24th place in the under 12’s race out of 52 finishers. The best rider in this age group was once again John Webster (Matlock CC).
In the under 14’s a costly slip on the last lap denied Joshua Waters 2nd place. He finished 4th, his brother Bailey finished in 13th place and Sam Jones also Plan B was 24th out of the 50 riders. William Gascoyne (Heanor Clarion) was again the winner.
In the senior race Justin Waters (Mercia HBM CC) lost at least 11 places on the last lap when he had a broken spoke to finish in 77th place, Gary Bush also Mercia HBM finished in 140th place. It was bad luck for Adrian Waters when he had to retire due to a puncture and a broken gear cable. Daniel Booth (Cult Racing) won the race easily by over 2 minutes leading from start to finish. 150 riders finished the race.
Peter Rose was pleasantly surprised to find he had finished in 6th place, and in the prizes in the Midlands Veterans Time Trials points competition based on age standards in the 67 and over age group. He qualified by riding in four events out of a total of 7 to total 56 points. The four he chose were two 10-mile time trials and two others of 16 miles and 19 miles. The winner of this age group was 80-year-old Alan Colburn (Team Echelon Rotor) with 76 points.
