Mercia Report 15-08-10

Jack Hugill wins 50-mile Championship & Noel Adams finishes a close second. Anne Staley finishes 2nd on age standard in separate Ladies event

The Mercia HBM CC 50 mile Championship was incorporated in the Burton & District Cycling Alliance 50 mile Time Trial organised by Peter Doherty of the South Pennine Road Club. This year’s winner was Jack Hugill who did an excellent ride considering the conditions. From the start at Etwall it was into a headwind, then from Uttoxeter to Blythe Bridge the road is mainly uphill as well. The return to Etwall was much easier, but it was difficult to make the time lost going out. Despite this Hugill recorded a personnel best in 1 58 57 A very close 2nd (by only seven seconds) was Noel Adams who timed 1 59 04, also a personnel best. Both riders finished 4th & 5th respectively in the BDCA event. Tony Marlow finished 3rd in the Mercia Championship with a time of 2 18 29. Jim Hopper (Derby Mercury) on his tricycle timed 2 26 20. In the separate ladies & open event Anne Staley (Plan B Racing) timed 2 15 09 to finish 2nd on age standard. The overall winner was Julian Jenkinson (UTAG Yamaha .com)

The last 10 mile evening time trial for this season was a handicap event on the Anslow circuit. Another fine evening attracted a good number of 19 riders. In the absence of David Clarke (who was still recovering from his injuries when he unfortunately crashed in the Victor Berlemont Memorial Road Race in Surrey) Sean Sleigh was the fastest. The riders & times are as follows. Sean Sleigh 24 07, Matt Simons 24 44, Simon Dunsby (Plan B) 25 10, Jack Hugill 25 24, Daniel Partington 25 27, Simon Parker 26 39, Phil Jones 26 52, Craig Tucker 27 35, Jeff Slinn 27 42, Mick Abbott 27 44, Tony Marlow 28 10, Alec Taylor 28 42, Sam Hicks 28 44, Brendan Walsh 29 12, Nick Chapman 29 17, Robert Gower 30 08, Andy Burton 31 05, Gary Bush 33 02 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 19 10.
