Mercia Report 25-04-10

David Clarke’s 2nd Road Race win & good showing at Mallory Park
David Clarke (Pendragon Le Col Colnago) had his second win this year in the Eagle Road Club’s 1 hour Criterium at the Redbridge Cycling Circuit in London. Team mate Kieran Frend finished 4th.

The first night of racing at Mallory Park saw good support from local cyclist’s in the 3rd & 4th category race with 70 riders competing in the 60 km race. Finishing the race in the main bunch was Mercia HBM riders Peter Collins, Simon Parker, & Phil Machin together with Christian Aucote (Moda Bikes UK). Ewan Davidson (Mercia HBM) retired after 7 laps.

In time tailing warm temperatures & light winds saw fast times being recorded in the Burton & District Cycling Alliance 25 mile time trial on the Etwall Uttoxeter course. Simon Smith timed 57 30 to be the fastest Mercia HBM rider. Jack Hugill was not far behind with a personal best of 58 07. Simon Parker also recorded a personal best in 1 00 18 and Mick Skivington 1 02 04. The winner was Jack Wall (Team Echelon Spuik) in 49 04.

Matt Simons chose to compete in the Team Swift 25 mile time trial on the Harworth Markham Moor course in Nottinghamshire timing 59 04 to finish in 33rd place out of an entry of 66 riders. The winning time of 50 57 was done by Nino Piccoli (Time Trial Weekly.)

The scheduled 10 mile evening time trial was cancelled due to a road accident.
