Mercia HBM Cycling Club Annual Buffet & Prize Presentation. Joshua Waters finished second in Cyclo Cross & good support by Club members in C.C.Giro’s reliability trials.


The Annual Buffet & Prise Presentation was again held at the Castle Hotel in Hatton. The main guests attending this year were Peter Wain & his two daughters Margaret & Sally to present the Sheila Wain Memorial Trophy. The Guest of Honour was Debbie Chesterton. Manager of the National Forestry Centre at Rosliston. In her time there she had seen visitor numbers go up from 10,000 per annum 10 years ago to 190,000 including 6,000 overnight stops. The centre was very keen on promoting cycling & walking, which included The Mercia HBM’s Cyclo Cross in September.

The prize winners were: Peter Rose 2nd in the club championship 50-mile time trial, Andrew Wendle 1st on handicap in the evening roller racing, Justin Waters Senior cyclo cross champion, Mick Abbot 2nd on handicap in the evening club 10’s, Noel Adams Fastest 50 mile time trial, Phil Machin Joint 1st in the Anniversary Championship for hill climbing & freewheeling, Phil Jones Senior hill climb champion & joint 1st in the Anniversary Championship for hill climbing & freewheeling. Mark Eccleston 1st on handicap in the club 25 mile Championship (Sheila Wain Trophy) & the most improved rider, Simon Smith Fastest in the club 25 mile Championship & fastest 25-mile time trial, Joshua Waters Juvenile Cyclo Cross Champion & Road Race Champion, Bailey Waters Cyclo Cross Champion at 10 years old & Elliot Waters Cyclo Cross Champion at 9 years old, Jack Hugill 1st in club championship 50 mile time trial, Fastest 30 mile time trial & 3rd on handicap in evening club 10’s, Keith Staley 1st Senior in evening club 10’s, 1st on handicap in evening club 10’s & 2nd fastest in the club 25 mile Championship, Simon Parker Senior Road Race Champion, 3rd fastest in the club 25 mile Championship, Senior Clubruns & 3rd on handicap in evening club 10’s. Richard Knott Clubman of the Year.

Sherwood Pines Cycling Club promoted the penultimate Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League event held in Sherwood Forest. In the Under 12s Joshua Waters finished a very close 2nd behind the talented William Gascoyne (Heanor Clarion). Joshua currently is second overall, his nearest rival Elliot Dudley (Sherwood Pines) finished 3rd. Bailey Waters finished 8th Despite still suffering from a cold.

In the under 10’s Elliot Waters was 6th, a good result considering a bad start saw him in 20th place on the first lap, the winner was John Webster (Matlock C.C.).

In the seniors race Joshua Waters is still improving to finish 69th out of 96 finishers. Adrian Waters was 93rd to win the prize for the best placed over 60’s rider. The winner was Robert Parkin (Heanor Clarion).
