Mercia Report 13-09-09

The Waters family ride in the first SRAM Notts & Derby League Cyclo Cross of the season & Jack Hugill is the fastest Mercia rider in 30 mile time trial.


The first SRAM Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League race for this season was held at Allestree Park in Derby. Elliott Waters, now racing in the under 10's, was 9th out of 40 riders who finished the race. The winner was Megan James ( bergavenny CC). In the under 12's Joshua Waters finished an excellent 2nd. His younger brother Bailey was 8th out of 18 finishers. The winner of this race was Louis Kilworth (Welland Valley CC). The Waters brothers father Justin competed in the Seniors event finishing 125th after twice falling of his cycle. Grandfather Adrian finished in 138th place out 167 starters, he was 3rd in the 60 to 65 age group. The winner of the Senior race was Dave Collins (Science in Sport Racing Team).

The Mercia HBM CC had 4 riders competing in the Notts & East Midlands Veterans (open to all ages) 30 mile time trial held on the Etwall Mickleover Uttoxeter course, promoted by Plan B's Ann Staley. The fastest of the four was Jack Hugill in 1 13 30. Noel Adams timed 1 14 59, Simon Parker 1 16 31 & Phil Machin 1 19 21. Ann Staley, as well as promoting the event, timed 1 15 19 for a personal best & also won the fastest ladies prize. The winner was Scott Povey (Warwickshire RC) in 1 02 39. 100 riders entered the time trial.

Two other club members travelled to Princethorpe in Warwickshire to ride in the Leamington C&AC open 10 mile time trial. Matt Simons timed 23 24 to finish in 26th place out of 73 finishers Kieron Patterson timed 29 47. Banbury Star's cycling club member John Simpkins was the winner in 20 34.
