Mercia Report 02-08-09

Six Mercia HBM riders competed in the Plan B Racing Club's open 10 mile time trial on the Etwall Foston course organised by Sean Sleigh. Ideal conditions meant a number of members recorded personal bests. The fastest club rider was Simon Smith who finished in 15th place timing 21 37. Next was Jack Hugill with a personal best time of 22 54. Matt Simons timed 23 11, Mark Eccleston 25 04, equalling his personal best. Nick Marriott finished in 26 10 & Kieron Patterson timed 28 02 another personal best. The winner was Richard O'Rourke (Flitch Crono RT) timing 19 53. Plan B riders Daniel Partington, Mick Scivington & Neil Sleigh timed 24 07, 24 28 & 24 28 respectively.

In two other events Keith Staley timed 24 27 in The Stourbridge Velo 10 mile time trial at Salford Priors in Warwickshire. The winner was Stuart Dangerfield (Shorter Rochford RT) in 19 40. Also in the same area Jack Hugill timed 1 03 46 in the Warwickshire Road Club time trial on the tough 25 mile course. Martin Donnelly a member of the League of Veterans RC recorded the fastest time in 53 09.

Anne Staley (Plan B RC) finished 12th in the ladies National 100 mile Time Trial Championships held near Thirsk in Yorkshire. With a personal best of 4hrs 46 mins 59 seconds. To win a national age medal. The Championship winner was Julia Shaw (Utag Yamaha RT) in 3 52 12.

The Waters brothers who rode in all six events on the sprint circuit at Curborough promoted by the Lichfield City Cycling Club, finished in the following positions in their age groups: Elliott was 3rd in the under 8's, Joshua was 4th in the under 12's & Bailey was 7th in the under 10's.

Due to the recent heavy rain one of the evening 10 mile time trials was cancelled & the other two had low turn outs. The Anslow circuit event result was as follows: Daniel Partington (Plan B) 25 23, Jack Hugill 25 43, Simon Parker 26 52, Tony Marlow 29 09 & Kieron Patterson 30 48. The times & positions for the Yoxall event were Daniel Partington (Plan B) 25 53, Mark Eccleston 28 10, Jeff Slinn 28 29, Tony Marlow 29 31, Adrian Waters 31 45 & Peter Rose 35 05.
