Simon Smith wins the Mercia HBM Club Championship 25. Mark Eccleston is first on Handicap & David Clarke wins circuit race
There was a low turn out of members due to the heavy rain, for those who entered the rain had stopped by the time the first rider was off. The 25 mile time trial was held on A515 between Yoxall & Constitution Island near Lichfield. Five riders competed. First was Simon Smith in 58 28, 2nd was Keith Staley 1 02 29 & 3rd was Simon Parker 1 05 55. Mark Eccleston timed 1 08 29 & Jeff Slinn timed 1 08 44. Mark was first on handicap with a handicap time of 55 29 to take the Sheila Wain Memorial Trophy.
Two members rode in the Walsall Roads CC 25 mile time trial held on the A38 between Fradley & Willington early Sunday morning. Matt Simons timed 59 38 & Jack Hugill 1 02 10. The winner was Michael Donnelly (League of Veterans Road Club) in 53 09. The previous day Simon Smith finished in 55 09 in the Belper Road Club's 25 mile event on the Etwall Uttoxeter Course. Stuart Dangerfield (Shorter Rochford RT) timed 48 58 to win the event.
David Clarke's best result since the National Road Race Championship was 1st place in the Liverpool Century Road Club's 1 hour race on the Litherland Circuit. He also finished in 5th place in the Tour of Blackpool Elite Men's Circuit Race held on the Central Promenade. The winner was Olympian Edward Clancy (Team Halfords Bike Hut). The next Day Clarke finished 28th in the 140 kilometre Tour of Blackpool. The winner of this race was Matt Cronshaw (Rapha Condor) a local rider from Preston. In the mid week Brighouse Circuit race held in heavy rain Clarke was 16th Dean Downing also a member of Rapha Condor was the winner.
