David Clarke finishes fifth in the Totnes Two Day road races & The Waters brothers continue to do well in their races
David Clarke's best two results to date were the fifth place overall in the Totnes two day cycle race. There were three stages in total. The first one was a hilly 70 miles with David finishing in 3rd place. The 2nd sage was a hilly 8 kilometre time trial & finally there was another 70 mile stage on fairly rolling circuit. The winner was Will Bjergfelt (Sports Bean/Wilier Cycles). In the Mallory Park Thursday Evening 60 kilometre race for Elite 1st, 2nd & 3rd category riders. Clarke finished 8th, Daniel Davies (Claytan/Sabbath) was 13th & Lewis Cowley (Plan B RT) was 23rd. The winner was Raphael Deinhart (Cycling Bargains / Metaltrek RT)
Clarke ran out of luck in the East Midlands International CiCLE Classic in Rutland ran over minor roads & farm tracks for a distance of 100 miles between Melton Mowbray & Oakham. He was up with the leaders early in the race, until he collided with 4 cars & broke his chain. He gamely carried on to finish just outside the top 40 of the 200 riders that started. The winner was Ian Wilkinson (Team Halfords – BikeHut)
The Waters Brothers continue to do well in juvenile races for the under 12's. In the Tuesday night races held at the Mallory Park Circuit Joshua, Bailey & Elliot achieved a clean sweep by finishing 1st respectively in the under 12's, 10's & under 8's races over 9 miles.
In the well supported Lichfield City Cycling Club's races on the Curborough sprint circuit, they were up against some tough opposition compared with Mallory Park, but they all rode well to finish in the top placings. Elliot finished 3rd in both his races for the under 8's. In the under 10's Bailey was 7th & 5th respectively in his 2 races. Finally Joshua was 6th & 3rd in the 2 races for the under 12's.
There was a down turn in the number of riders in the 2nd 10 mile evening time trial, no doubt due to the cold & threatening rain. Fastest of the 13 competitors was Sean Sleigh (Plan B) 24 58. Second was Mercia HBM rider Keith Staley 25 54 & 3rd fastest was Mercia HBM new member Simon Smith 26 29. The rest of the times were Jack Hugill 27 23.
