David Clarke retains East Midlands Road Race Championship & gets invite to guest in German Team for the Tour of Romania
Despite a puncture early in the race David Clarke made up the 3minutes ( due to a slow wheel change ) to catch the leading riders in the East Midlands Road Race Championship. A big effort in the final 10 miles of the 83 mile race saw him breakaway & win to retain the championship he won last year. Matt Jennings (Webster’s Cycles) finished 2nd. The race was held near Barrow on Sour. Clarke has been invited to guest for a German team in the eight day Tour of Romania.
The last two evening time trials saw David Clarke record the fastest times.
Tuesday 27th May. David Clarke 23 30, Sean Sleigh (Plan B) 24 01, Steve Plummer 24 20, Christian Aucote (Team Kenda) 26 04, Noel Adams 26 29, Daniel Partington (Plan B) 26 41, Simon Parker 26 41, Neil Sleigh (Plan B) 29 42 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 18 17.
Tuesday 3rd June. David Clarke 23 10, Daniel Partington (Plan B ) 26 19, Simon Parker 26 23, Keith Staley 26 58, Phil Jones 28 02, Mark Eccleston 29 01, Ivor James 29 03, Adrian Waters 29 58 & Peter Rose 33 32 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 17 57 .The first three on handicap in this event were Adrian Waters 21 43, Simon Parker 21 53, & Ivor James 22 18.
In the rescheduled Walsall Road Club 2 up 25 mile time trial held on the A38 between Alrewas & Willington Matt Simons & Keith Staley timed 1 00 25. The winners were Stuart Walker & Lee Woolridge from the promoting club in 51 48.
Matt also rode The Echelon Cycles Hilly 23 mile event on the Weston on Trent, Blithfield Reservoir, Uttoxeter circuit in a time of 59 22. He finished in 18th position out of an entry of 65 riders. The winner was Rob Wood (Echelon Cycles) in 51 13.
