Mercia Report 01-06-08

Sixteen riders in evening 10 mile time trial at Yoxall, David Clarke finishes 9th & 4th in road races at Shrewsbury & in Somerset.
The first of four 10 mile time trials held at Yoxall on the A515 between Yoxall & Constitution Island near Lichfield saw 16 riders competing. Fastest was Sean Sleigh(Plan B) in 23 45. 2nd fastest was Simon Smith (Coalville Wheelers ) in 23 48. David Clarke finished 3rd in 23 52. The following riders & times were Steve Plummer 24 16. Gary Brown 25 53. Keith Staley 26 19. Alec Taylor 27 09. Graham Martin(Coalville Wheelers) 27 21. Daniel Partington (Plan B) 27 31. Richard Clark (Birmingham CC) 28 43. Mark Eccleston 28 46. Tony Marlow 28 47. Adrian Waters 29 31. Colin Johnson 29 40. Dave Peters 34 37 & Debbie Clarke 35 00.

David Clarke finished in 9th place in the Shrewsbury Circuit race over 40 km. The winner was Mathew Higgins (Team Corley Cycles/Alpha RC). The next day he travelled down to Somerset to compete in the McKinley’s Road Race at Horton near Ilminster. The 69 mile race went into the Blackdown Hills & was promoted by First Chard Wheelers. Clarke was beaten in the sprint to the finishing line to finish fourth. The winner was Polish rider Martin Bialablocki (Sports Beans Wiler).

Gary Brown timed 25 04 in the Melton Olympic CC 10 mile time trial held on the Six Hills Widmerpool course in very windy conditions. The winner was James Perkins (Zenith CC) in 20 33.
