Members compete in Bank Holiday Time Trials & David Clarke goes even faster in Evening Time Trial
Three members competed in two local ten mile time trials over the Bank Holiday. In the Coventry CC event held at Wolvey, Matt Simons timed 25 10 & Ivor James 28 44 for 39th & 78th positions respectively out of an entry of 94 riders. The winner was Darren Buckby (Go Sport Spex RT) the only rider to go under 22 minutes with a time of 21 55 on this tough course.
Gary Brown timed 25 27 to finish 28th out of 50 entrants in Matlock Cycling Clubs 10 mile time trial held on the A6 between Rowsley & Bakewell. Dominic Sweeney (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) won the event timing 21 21.
Noel Adams was also a competitor in the previous weeks 25 mile time trial organised by the Notts & East Midlands Veterans at Etwall timing 1 00 48.
Twelve riders rode in the last Mercia HBM evening 10 mile time trial. In fine & warm conditions for a change, David Clarke improved by one second on his previous 10 mile evening time trial timing 22 58. Second was Richard Knott in 25 28. 3rd was Keith Staley in 26 10. The other times were Simon Parker 26 53. Alec Taylor 27 48. Jeff Slinn 28 33. Mark Eccleston 29 07. Ivor James 29 34. Tony Marlow 29 55. Adrian Waters 29 57. Phil Knott 31 58 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 17 59.
David Clarke finished 40th overall in the Chaz Messenger Premier Calendar two day cycle race held in Buckinghamshire. His highest placing was 34th on the 140 km third stage. The winner was Russell Downing (Pinarello RT.
