41st Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation

The Mercia HBM Cycling Club held it’s forty first annual dinner & prize presentation at the Albion Hotel Shobnall Road in Burton. The guests included Trevor Jarvis from Tenbury Wells. The well known manufacturer of the unique “Flying Gate” Cycle Frame & Peter Wain Formerly the landlord of the Beech Hotel in Stretton, with his daughters Margaret & Sally to present the Sheila Wain Memorial Trophy for the first rider on handicap in the club’s 25 mile championship. Presenting the prizes was Mercia’s Professional cyclist David Clarke who gave an interesting speech about the highs & lows of racing on the European Continent.

The prize winners were Adrian Waters Second in the evening club 10’s on handicap. Peter Rose: Roller racing champion on handicap. Nick Marriott: First veteran on age standard in the evening club 10’s. Keith Staley: Second in the club 25 mile championship. Keith Malcolm: Second in the club 50 mile championship. Roger Owen: Club 100 mile champion. Simon Parker: Hill climb & Freewheeling combine champion, Senior clubruns award, Third place in the club 25 mile championship & Third place in the evening club 10’s on handicap. Phil Jones: First on handicap in the club 25 mile championship & First in the evening club 10’s on handicap. Richard Knott: First senior in the evening club 10’s, Cyclo-cross champion & Senior Hill climb champion. Oliver Beddows: Club 25 mile champion, Fastest open 30 miles, Fastest open 25 miles & Most improved rider. Noel Adams: Senior Best All Rounder, Fastest open 100 miles & Fastest open 50 miles. Keith Lee: Clubman of the Year.

The day after the club dinner David Clarke travelled down to Hampshire to compete in the first road race of the season in the U.K. The Perfs Pedal road race at Southwick. Clark finished in 4th place in the eight man sprint for the finishing line. The winner was Alex Dowsett a member of the Anti drugs team 100% Me. The race distance was 38 miles.
