A WIN FOR DAVID CLARKE IN THE JOHN HINKSMAN MEMORIAL RACE & LOCAL CYCLIST`S COMPLETE TOURIST TRIALS

Since returning to the U.K. David Clark (Team Nippo K.F.S.) has been first & highly placed in two other events. In the Recycling. co.uk. League Road Race held at Winmarleigh in Lancashire he was fourth in the 77 mile race, in the same time as the winner Mark Wordsworth (J. E. James R.T.) in 3 hours 9 minutes 57 seconds. The Notts. & Derby Cyclo Cross League round one event saw Clarke finish 5th at Sinfin Moor Park Derby. First in the 6 lap race was Jim Bryan (Ace R.T.) in 50 min 25 seconds. The race David won was the John Hinksman memorial race held on the Darley Moor circuit near Ashbourne over 55 km & promoted by Ashfield R.C.

On the Audax scene Jim Hopper (Derby Mercury R.C.) & Ian Hill (Mercia H.B.M. C.C.) completed a 600 km unassisted audax ride from Southport to Keswick, Scarborough & back to Southport. The ride took in climbs in three National Parks, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales & North Yorkshire Moors. Headwinds & torrential showers made the return leg harder. The duo finished the ride in 35 hours.

Ian Hill on behalf of the Mercia H.B.M. C.C. organised a 107 km Audax ride from the Rosliston Forestry Centre. This was a touring & challenge ride with riders taking between 4.5 & 8 hours to complete the ride. The route, mostly on lanes skirted Tamworth to Nether Whitacre, then to Sutton Wharf, Bosworth Field & returning to Rosliston. The ride attracted 96 riders & a special mention must be made to 10 year old Emily Startin from Branston the youngest rider who completed the 66 mile ride with her father Ben Startin. Other successful riders were Dave Harriott, Richard House, Philip Jones & Jim Stewart (all Mercia H.B.M. C.C.) Martin & Tracey Robins, Peter Cox, Nicholas Cox, Terry Williams, Robert Clarke, Jonathon Tyson, Paul Dytham, Lyn Dolphin, Irvine Wright & Glen Corcoran.

Ian Hill also organised a 211 km Audax ride on the same day starting & finishing at the Forestry Centre on behalf of the East Midlands C.T.C. taking in the six counties of the East Midlands. This went east to Lincolnshire before returning south of Rutland Water, riders finished between 7 & 13 hours for the 131 mile ride. Successful local riders of the 68 entrants were Ray Mortlock, Richard Mottram, Mick Burton & Geoff Kedzierski.
